Lloydminster, Saskatchewan - The Wrangler Bull Riders Canada Season IV Finals ended this past weekend with only a 100 point difference between the BRC National Champion, Will Purcell and the BRC Finals Champion, Cody Coverchuk. This was an action-packed show you did not want to miss!
In night one of the BRC Finals, the best score went to Shay Marks, Sunnybrook, AB with an 84.5 point ride on the back of Foley Bucking Bulls' Fired Up Freddy.
All the victory went to the Bulls in the Canadian Global Grudge Match, where we saw the Top 5 BRC Cowboys vs the Top 5 BRC Bucking Bulls. Each Stock Contractor was awarded a $1000.00 cheque for their bulls' performance and the crowd was witness to why these bulls are voted the Top 5!
Immediately following the Canadian Global Grudge Match, the Buckle and title for Bull of the Year - won by Jesus n Bosephus - was presented to owners Lindsey & Vinee Carlier, X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle.
Along with the Bull of the Year, other awards presented on night one included Event of the Year Award which went to the Cochrane, Alberta BRC put on by the Cowboys for A Cure Committee. Congratulations to Cowboys for a Cure on receiving this coveted award that is voted on by BRC Members.
Will Purcell accepted his Buckle award for his well deserved position in the BRC National Standings as Season Leader.
BRC Finals continued with night two and was filled with excitement and firsts! Tim Lipsett, Lumsden, SK takes the Long Round win with 86.5 points on the back of Outlaw Buckers Rodeo Corp.'s Big Willow. Lipsett earned himself $4,931.85 and 740 points toward the Season IV Standings.
Will Purcell, Merrijig, Australia became the first international BRC National Champion! Will came into the Finals as Season Leader and with his efforts at the BRC Finals, he remained in the number one spot of Season IV with 3400 points and a season winnings of $16,288.57. Congratulations Will!
Being the closest race to the top BRC has seen to-date, it came down to one of last rides of the night with Cody Coverchuk taking on Thompson Rodeo's Blow Me Away in the Canadian Global Championship Round. Coverchuk blew everyone away with a much deserved 88 point ride and earned himself a weekend total of 900 points, $7,054.04 and of course, his title as Season IV BRC Finals Champion!
Coverchuk's BRC Season IV efforts awarded him over $24,000.00 in winnings and 3300 points - just 100 points shy of BRC 2016 National Champion, Will Purcell.
As we switch the focus back to our four-legged athletes, the Bull of the Finals buckle and title was awarded to Crying Black and presented to owners Josh & Tamara Berezay, Two Bit Bucking Bulls.
