Bull Riders Canada Action in Montana
Shelby, MT - Bull Riders Canada members rode into Shelby Montana on July 20th for the Marias County Fair event which featured 25 riders in the long round and 10 riders in the short round.
“Last year we had only 17 riders show up and they only rode three bulls.” exclaimed Buster Brown, one of the Committee members after the event concluded.
Mr. Brown continued “...we were hoping that we would get to see more cowboys ride more bulls this year and you Canadians don’t mess around! You get down (on top of the bull in the chute) get out (from the chute quickly) and ride bulls real good!”.
Bull Riders Canada members made up 18 of the 25-man roster while US riders held BRC permits to compete at the event. The stock was supplied by Bailey Pro Rodeo and was just fantastic!
There were 8 rides in the long round and Austin Nash, Eckville, AB won the round with an 85.5 point score on BPR T24 Rodeo Red.
Thank you to Reita Creek Scoreboards for submitting the video of Austin Nash's Long Round ride:
There were 4 rides in the short round where 2-time NFR Qualifier Parker Breding, Edgar, MT was a solid 84 on BPR 17 The Hurst. Breding was a total of 162.5 on two head and ended up winning the event by a single point over Nash who was given an option for a re-ride in the short round and declined.
Complete results can be found on the BRC website and they are worth looking at since there were a lot of good rides.
Bull Riders Canada would like to thank Clint Solomon, Shane Gunderson and the Marias County Fair Board for the opportunity to work with them on this fantastic event!
Nash Keeps Rolling in Havre
Havre, MT - Fresh off a second place finish the night before, Austin Nash, Eckville, AB stepped up, and walked out of the Cody Four Colors Memorial Bull Riding as the event champion with a very respectable 174 on two total.
The Cody Four Colors Memorial Bull Riding was put on by a retired bull rider, local rancher and passionate community advocator Clint Solomon. Clint and his wife (Casey) working with the Four Colors Family and Havre Fair Board, created one of the best, if not the best, bull ridings of the entire year (any association)! The event kicked off with a cattle drive of “The World’s Largest Horn Width Longhorns” cows and calves down the valley, across the highway, through the fairgrounds and into the arena. The best lead up into to a bull riding we have ever seen!
Immediately prior to the grand entry, the Four Colors Family sang a ceremonial song behind the bucking chutes that made the hair stand up on the back of your neck. You could just tell that things were going to be amazing and that big things were going to happen that night. There were roughly 20 BRC members there plus another 20 US (nearly all Montana) riders who came to support the Cody Four Colors event. Cody was a multiple PRCA Circuit Finalist, Dodge Ram Circuit Champion Finalist and an Indian World Champion bull rider who represented his people, his family and his State of Montana very well.
The Four Colors Family gave everyone a souvenir shirt, fed everyone after the event and were amazing hosts!
There were a total of 54 bulls bucked: 40 in the long round (filled) and 11 in the short round, with a few re-rides as well. The short round was full with 11 qualified rides, the last two spots were tied so Clint ponied up another bull so that no bull rider with a qualified long round score would be excluded from the short round.
Winning the long round was Austin Nash, Eckville, AB with an 85.5 score on BPR 25 Steve-o. For his efforts in the long round, Nash picked up a beautiful silver trophy buckle - but he was not done.
In the short round it was T’Jay Allen with a whopping 89 point effort on CS 7512 Soup in a Group. Nash was held to the end and was going to now need an 85 point effort to win the Champion Trophy buckle. When the buzzer sounded Nash was still aboard his mount to score an 88 point ride and win the inaugural event title, two trophy buckles and over $3000 US cash.
The Cody Four Colors event is the largest bull riding in the State of Montana and was regarded by many long time residents of Havre as “the best event they have ever seen”! Congratulations to Clint and his team, congratulations to the Four Colors Family and we hope to able to see you again next year!
Brazil Reigns at Speedway Bull-A-Rama event in Penticton
Penticton, BC - Bull Riders Canada was extremely proud to be associated with High Risk Entertainment Ltd. in bringing the fourth annual Speedway Bull-A-Rama this past July 22.
“It is not often that people can go to a real speedway track to witness top-level bull riders competing on some of the Nation's greatest bovine superstars.” explains Bull Riders Canada President Russell Friend. “The entire production team (Johnny, Jasmine and their crew) have done an incredible job at building an annual event that the entire Okanogan Valley looks forward to each summer. The facilities, the caliber of stock and cowboys and the production of the event is a “must-attend” for locals and tourists alike.
Due to the unfortunate fire situation within the Province, many of the region’s riders simply could not make it to support the event. As a result, the four-year running event saw 14 riders compete in two long rounds of competition.
Marcos Gloria, Central de Minas, Brazil, won the first round with a 78 point score on S&E Little Bucks. Winning the second round was Dylan Somerville, Mantario, SK with an 82.5 aboard S&E Huckleberry. Placing second in the round was Gloria as he was the only rider to ride both bulls. As a result, Gloria regained the number one spot from Griffin Smeltzer, Chlaresholm, AB.
Thank you to Andre Oliveira for submitting the video clips of Marcos' rides:
Congratulations also goes out to the Jr Steer Riders who rode at this event, namely those who made qualified rides: 1st - Tristan Rocco Dan with 71pts; 2nd - Issac Janzen 66pts; 3rd - Kevin Wallace 65pts. Great job cowboys!
Special thanks to High Risk Entertainment Ltd. for the opportunity to continue the tradition of fantastic bull riding action and we hope to see you again next year!
