Wyatt Gregg shines at Badlands Circuit Finals Rodeo

MINOT, N.D. – Wyatt Gregg had never qualified for the RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo.

That will not be the case anymore after his performance at the RAM Badlands Circuit Finals Rodeo (Oct. 8-11).

Gregg won the average with 164 points on two head and he also clinched the year-end title to punch his ticket to the RNCFR next spring.

Gregg won the first round with an 84-point ride on Bailey Pro Rodeo's Suttons Pet, and the was tops in the second round with an 80-point ride on Sutton Rodeos' Decorated Clown. Despite getting bucked off in rounds 3 and 4, Gregg held on to capture the average.

“In the first round I had a really good bull,” said Gregg, 25. “I didn’t know if I was going to make the whistle on him and I ended up getting him covered, which was pretty exciting. My second round bull felt really good underneath me and he came back into my hand a little bit and I was able to finish that ride off good. This is really the first year that I’ve kind of focused on my circuit rodeos and I was glad to see things pay off for me. It’s a nice accomplishment when you reach your goals.”

Gregg pocketed $6,712 in Minot - $3,356 for claiming the average.

“I was little over halfway before I got bucked off in the third round and I got bucked off right at the whistle in the fourth round,” Gregg said. “I definitely didn’t think those two rides (in the first and second round) would hold for the average, but I was able to hang on.”

Competing at the RNCFR is something that Gregg is already looking forward to doing. The RNCFR will take place next spring in Kissimmee, Fla., at the Silver Spurs Arena. This will be the second year the RNCFR will take place in Kissimmee.

“I’m really excited (about the RNCFR), especially with all the money they have added there,” Gregg said. “I’m definitely excited to be riding for that money and hopefully I can win a title there that would be pretty sweet.”

Other winners at the $201,387 rodeo were all-around champion were Rex Treeby (tie-down roping and team roping), bareback rider Casey Breuer (321 points on four head), Colt Floyd (18.7 seconds on four head), team ropers Logan Olson and Jordan Olson (30.1 seconds on four head), saddle bronc rider Jesse Bail (304 points on four head), tie-down roper Clint Kindred (36.5 seconds on four head), and barrel racer Calyssa Thomas (56.07 seconds on four runs).
