PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION TAKES ON NEW MEANING AT NHSFR

Gillette, WY., July 22, 2016 Candidates presented their campaigns to event attendees during the past week of the NHSFR. Don’t worry, we’re no t talking about Trump and Hillary. We’re talking about the NHSRA student officer candidates.

In total, 18 student officer candidates competed in the political arena for 3 positions: president, vice president and secretary. These candidates presented their cases in the form of poster boards, complimentary chapsticks, trucker hats, letters and lots of candy.

A student delegate meeting was held on the CamPlex grounds today, which resulted in the election of President Cullen Eppright (TX), Vice President Kyler Dick (UT) and Secretary Grace Hasler (IN).

Eppright is currently serving as the Texas High School Rodeo Association Student President, and has served as the NHSRA Jr. High Division President in 2014. Eppright’s slogan for his presidential campaign was “Cinch up tight, tie ‘em right, and vote for Cullen Eppright.”

Utah native, Kyler Dick, has competed in the junior high and high school division of the NHSRA for over 6 years in steer wrestling, team roping and reining cowhorse. As NHSRA’s vice president, Dick will strive to “preserve our western heritage as a rodeo community and family.”

Hasler is keeping a family tradition of running for NHSRA office alive. Her younger sister, Mel Hasler, ended her term of Junior High President this year. Hasler competes in breakaway roping, team roping, goat tying, barrel racing and pole bending. She currently holds a spot in the Top 10 for All Around Cowgirl.

The National High School Rodeo Association facilitates the first and second largest rodeos in the world: National High School Finals Rodeo and National Junior High Finals Rodeo, respectively. This organization allows Canadian, Australian and American youth to participate in the great sport of rodeo throughout the year. The organization was founded in 1949, in response to a dream of Founder Claude Mullins to keep western heritage alive through roping, riding and mentorship.
