For the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Feb. 19, 2016) --- It’s been three years since Clayton Moore was crowned the champion steer wrestler at the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo.
The Pouce Coupe, British Columbia, resident earned $15,311 here in 2013 and finished 16th in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association world standings, just one spot out of qualifying for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR). While he didn’t get to make the trip to Las Vegas to compete at rodeo’s championships, he did qualify for the Canadian National Finals Rodeo where he was crowned their champion.
Some things have changed since then. Just last November, Moore became a daddy. The one thing that hasn’t changed is his desire to win. He stopped the clock in 4.5 seconds on Friday night to win the first round of bracket 4 and $2,281. Moore is now in good position to advance to next week’s semifinals and has two more opportunities to add to his earnings.
The saddle bronc riding ride of the night was put on by CoBurn Bradshaw and Rafter H Rodeo’s Summer Wages. They had an 82 to win first and $2,281. Bradshaw made his first trip to Las Vegas last December to compete at the NFR and finished the 2015 season in fourth place.
Bradshaw, who is currently third in the world, is traveling with his brother-in-laws, Jake and Alex Wright who also placed here on Friday. Jake finished second to win $1,711, and Alex tied for fourth earning $285. Four contestants will advance out of this bracket to the semifinals and if they all make it, there will be a good chance of seeing someone with a Wright connection competing for the saddle bronc riding title here.
Saturday’s competition in the AT&T Center will feature the second and third rounds of bracket 4. At the conclusion of the evening performance, semifinals qualifiers will be determined. Action starts at 1 and 7:30 p.m.
