A torrential downpour halted the Calgary Stampede's Rangeland Derby on Monday night.

Despite a darkening sky, the chuckwagon races began on time but were forced to take a break following Heat 6 due to heavy rain and lightning.

After a brief discussion, officials made the decision to cancel the remaining heats Monday night.

While many attendees of the Rangeland Derby fled the stands during the downpour, some were brave enough to wait it out. Free coffee and pop was being given at the concession stands while people took cover.
