AIRDRIE, Alberta -- From a torrential downpour cancelling Friday's Derby, to dust flying in the arena on Saturday and Sunday, the 2015 Airdrie Oilmen's Association Bikes & Bulls Charity event featured weather from nearly every season.

Friday's Bull Derby would be re-scheduled to Sunday and Saturday's event went ahead as planned.

Australian Cowboy Will Purcell emerged as the champion on Saturday, the first day of competition. A combined score of 169.5 points on two head won Will a $2,700 and a brand new Jensen Silver buckle.

Purcell capped off the victory with one of the highest scores in Bull Riders Canada competition this year, an 87.5 on Paradise City from the X6 Ranch. With the win the Merrijig, Australia athlete moves to fifth in the BRC National Standings.

Jordan Carlier, of the X6 Ranch, earned his first points of the 2015 season on Saturday after putting together two bull rides to finish second on Saturday. Carlier joins the standings in 47th place with 345 points and $1,551 thanks to the AOA.

Third and fifth place on day one in Airdrie went to current standings leader Brian Hervey. For his efforts riding three of four bulls, the Brant, AB man took home over $1,400 and yet another 500 points towards solidifying his second BRC National Title.

Rounding out the top five on night one was Ken Siemens thanks to his 81.5 point effort from round one. Siemens sits exactly in the middle of bull riders who will qualify for October's BRC Finals III in Lloydminster, SK.

Sunday featured the re-scheduled Bull Derby where $18,000 would be paid out to the top up and coming bulls in our nation.

293 from the Wild Hoggs, or Mis B Haven as named by Modern Industrial Structures, would put up the top score of the afternoon. 89.5 points was the result to earn the Wild Hoggs crew $5,220 and a new buckle.

Airdrie is one of the few places bulls of this age can compete in Canada.

"We would like to thank the Airdrie Oilmen's Association and the committee for their hard work to provide us breeders with this great opportunity," Justin Volz of the Wild Hoggs said after the event. "There are few places in Canada that we can take our up and coming bulls and compete for prize money. It is amazing how this event has grown in two years and it is all to do with great committee and sponsors. We appreciate the opportunity and look forward to next year."

New Zealand's Laurie Hawea was the top bull rider of the day taking home over $2,700 for his efforts and moving to 60th in the standings.

Manitoba's Landon Lockhart passed the $10,000 mark in season earnings all the way up to within $66 of $12,000 on the year. Lockhart placed second on Sunday earning 90 points towards the standings in which he sits third, behind only Josh Birks and Brian Hervey.

British Columbia Bull Rider Matt O'Flynn moved to 31st in the BRC, almost ensuring his spot in Lloydminster, thanks to a third place finish on Sunday.

With only a few events remaining, every point and every ride counts.

To date, Bull Riders Canada Inc. has paid out over $250,000 to bull riders in 2015.
