The Reno Rodeo is one reality show that has broken the heart of saddle bronc rider Heith DeMoss more than once, but his personal audition on "The Voice" on a sold-out Sunday night at the Reno Rodeo Arena might be changing that.
DeMoss rode the Flying U Rodeo Co., bronc named "The Voice," for 82 points for the high score of the night.
"I've never done a dang thing at this rodeo," said DeMoss, of Heflin, La. "I've always wanted to do good here but have never even made the (championship) round. I want to win here and get that set of Silver Spurs that you can tell your grandkids about."
DeMoss had been on the bronc twice before at different rodeos and had never scored as high as he did on Sunday.
"I think I was 73 or 74 both times, but today, she was mad about something," said DeMoss, whose brother, Cody, has won the saddle bronc title twice in Reno. "I just went for it and let the chips fall where they may."
The 82 puts DeMoss in second place in the first go-round behind Jesse Wright, who scored 84 on opening night Friday. DeMoss will make his second-round ride Monday, as will all the other rides in saddle bronc and bareback who were up on Sunday.
