Dressing Western for the Calgary Stampede is a tradition started by Guy Weadick in 1923 to get the support of the town and make it easy for everyone to take part in the annual celebration of western culture.
Decades later the tradition continues….many downtown offices allow a 10-day departure from the hum-drum routine of business suits and dress slacks so that their employees can get into the Stampede spirit. You may feel a little awkward or shy about dressing Western. Don't! It's a tradition, and you'll look like a fish out of water if you *continue* to wear your regular business clothing. If you're visiting, you'll miss half the fun of Stampede.
If you are looking to update your western wardrobe or dressing up for the fist time, take a short, scenic drive 40 minutes North of Calgary on the QE2 Highway to Canada’s Largest Western Store - Irvine Tack & Western Wear.
