Just a few hours after Blake Shelton released his new single on March 8—the romantically-charged “Came Here to Forget”—the singer also announced the details behind his 12th studio album.
Titled If I’m Honest, the project is set for release May 20, and Blake says it will be a special one for him. “This is the most excited I’ve been about a new album since the release of my second record,” he said in an offical statement.
The buzz leading up to Blake’s new music has revolved around his divorce from fellow country star Miranda Lambert last summer and his new relationship with pop singer Gwen Stefani, who also went through a divorce in 2015.
Blake had hinted about working through the transition in song, and “Came Here to Forget” seems to confirm that. Co-written by Craig Wiseman and Deric Ruttan, the slow jam finds a couple in a similar situation, trying to mend broken hearts with someone new.
“I’ve had a lot of music over the years,” Blake said about the track, “but I don’t think I’ve ever had a song before that’s such a direct look into my life.”
Blake is currently finishing up his Blake Shelton 2016 Tour Presented by Gildan, and also leading a team on the 10th season of NBC’s The Voice.
